The Department of Art at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Art History. Job Description:

Duties include but not limited to:

teaching foundation courses in Art History and upper-level courses in Contemporary Art and Critical Theory (seven courses per academic year); engaging with student academic advisement, and with college and departmental service; supporting general education needs and helping students fulfill major requirements in Art, Digital & Studio Art, and strengthening upper-level electives in Art History by developing new courses if necessary; fostering growth in the Art History concentration, mentoring students through their studies, and providing guidance for post-graduation success in the field; engaging in continuous scholarship in Art History and Criticism (publications, conference presentations, etc.).

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

PhD in Art History (ABD considered, completion required by date of appointment); demonstrable ability to teach topics in both traditional and contemporary art; a strong interest in sustainability-related themes in Art History; a developing record of publications or other scholarly activity.

Preferred:

ability to include new developments in the fields of sustainability and the Anthropocene as addressed by art history, critical theory and art practice; ability to adjust and adapt to new developments in the field; previous teaching experience at the college level; demonstrable commitment to continued professional development; record of experiential student activities beyond the classroom; and experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or service with diverse and/or multicultural populations.

Also Considered:

experience in developing new courses; ability to include non-western artistic topics throughout the curriculum; experience with NASAD accreditation requirements and processes; strong record of service to campus and community.
