Position Description:

The Department of Diagnosis and Oral Health, Division of Periodontics at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry (ULSD) invites applications for a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor Term Open Rank faculty position in Periodontics. Applicants must possess a DDS/DMD degree or equivalent and be eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Candidates must have completed a formal training program in Periodontics, preferably from a CODA­ accredited institution, or possess a Master or PhD in Periodontics. Candidates who are Board eligible or are certified by the American Board of Periodontology are preferred.  Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The applicant should have demonstrated excellence in clinical and didactic teaching, an ongoing commitment to dental education and service, and evidence of scholarly activity. Candidates with proven teaching experience including course directorship are preferable. A proven ability to conduct research, such as the attainment of a PhD, and evidence of mentoring students of all levels is also highly desirable. Both clinical and tenure-accruing opportunities may be considered for appropriately qualified applicants.

The successful applicant will:

  • Provide pre-clinical instruction and supervise clinical student learning experiences at both the Pre-and Post-doctoral level including advanced surgical procedures, dental implants, implant site development, esthetic procedures and IV sedation.
  • Participate in didactic instruction in periodontal content areas, perform student assessments, and take part in faculty calibration and development in pre-clinical and clinical areas at both the Pre-and Post-doctoral level.
  • Engage in service activities in the University, the community, and with national organizations.
Eligible for $10,000 Sign-on/ Retention bonus

This position will also serve as the Periodontics Predoctoral Program Director and responsibilities will include: 
  • Provide leadership to carry out the academic and clinical instruction and to assure that the educational curriculum to be consistent with the specialty practices, trends, and accreditation standards.   
  • Provide ongoing evaluation of the program. 
  • Provide guidance and calibration to the faculty. 
  • Help maintain, recruit, and recommend new faculty in consultation with search committees and the department chair.  Plan for the orientation, on-boarding and calibration of new faculty.  
  • Schedule faculty to meet education needs. 
  • Provide individual instruction and support to faculty in alignment with workplan assignment.  
  • Collaborate with other colleagues across disciplines to deliver a patient-centered comprehensive care model that delivers the best of care.  
  • Participate in curriculum committee work and work closely with the office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs.  
  • Prepare a variety of administrative and management reports relating to program activities.
