Position Description:

The University of Louisville School of Music seeks an outstanding candidate to serve as Lecturer in Bands to begin by August 1, 2023. This is a 10-month part-time faculty position that will hold the rank of part-time lecturer. The faculty member will work closely with the Director of Bands, Associate Director of Bands, Assistant Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands, and administrative specialist in an established team environment to build and maintain a vibrant, nationally recognized program.

Duties will include collaborating with the UofL University/Community Band and assisting with the teaching and administration of the Cardinal Marching Band and Cardinal Pep Band programs. Responsibilities may include drill writing, music arranging, inventory management, recruiting and retention, community outreach, and helping to manage the program's social media and online presence based on the skill of the candidate. The successful candidate will represent the band program in a professional manner with faculty, staff, alumni, and student interactions.

Please note that this position will require work on evenings and weekends and travel to away athletic games, including during semester breaks. This is a non-tenurable appointment and does not include health benefits.

Qualifications

Candidates should have teaching experience in athletics and concert bands as well as a demonstrated commitment to teaching and student recruitment. A Bachelor of Music or Music Education is required, however; preference may be given to a candidate with an earned Master of Music, Music Education or a graduate degree in a related field.
