Job Description:

Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach is responsible for all aspects of the development and administration of a successful NCAA Division III Intercollegiate Ice Hockey Program. The program will be conducted in accordance with all College and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), rules, regulations, and policies.

The Assistant Coach is a professional employee of the College with a primary duty of teaching and instructing student-athletes in the sport of ice-hockey. The vast majority of the Assistant Coach's time is spent on coaching/teaching duties in season as well as intensive recruiting, while a minority of the Assistant Coach's time is spent performing administrative duties.

Essential Functions

1. Coaching/Teaching Duties (70% of Assistant Coach's time):

Teach and develop ice-hockey skills in a successful, safe and prudent manner incorporating all aspects of the game from skating, shooting, puck handling, body checking, etc;

Create, present, and maintain records of up-to-date practice plans for pre-season/season drills and procedures detailing the desired goals to be achieved;

Schedule practice and game preparation sessions; conduct post game analysis;

Work with Head coach on all aspects of the game of ice hockey, PP, PK, etc;

Break down game videos and practice videos to be used as a teaching tool weekly;

Work with players off the ice (chalk talks);

Conduct research of opposing teams, breaking down their games and cutting them up to be used as a teaching tool for the players and staff.

2. Administrative Dutiesâ (30% of Assistant Coach's time):

Conduct an ongoing recruitment program through a variety of methods, with the goal to attract, select and encourage enrollment of high caliber ice-hockey student-athletes.â Could include extensive travel to games, showcases, tournaments in and out of the New England area;

Monitoring weight room activities for safety purposes only, in and out of season;

Work with the head coach in inventorying and ordering/purchasing of all equipment for the team;

Work with the head coach in all travel & meal arrangements i.e.: bus, airfare, hotel, pre/post game meals, etc;

Oversee (with the HC) the student managers and student workers that are part of the ice-hockey team;

Keep in direct contact with athletic trainers to keep up with player injury and care;

Initiate new ideas and methods to improve the program in support of the team's goals of a conference championship and national recognition.

3. Supervision:

Supervise work students and team managers as needed.

Additional Functions:

Comply with the NCAA ice hockey policies, conference rules, and department policies and procedures;

Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach;

Must be able to perform Head Coach duties on an emergency basis;

Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in a related discipline from an accredited four-year collegiate institution.

One to two years of hockey coaching experience at the club, high school or college level.

Experience in coaching and knowledge of the fundamentals, tactics, and strategies of coaching ice hockey with ability to recruit talented players for the program.

Knowledgeable and current on all College rules and regulations concerning eligibility and recruiting related to ice hockey.

Ability to handle emergency situations involving students.

Current driver's license and good driving record.

Ability to travel.

Ability to work evening and weekends and some holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ice-hockey playing experience.

Current CPR and First Aid certification.
