invites applications for a
Law Fellow
to join the legal team. This position is intended for a recent law school graduate or a licensed attorney with 2 years or less of experience who is interested in pursuing a career in higher education law and who has a demonstrated interest in the laws and legal issues pertinent to colleges and universities. The individual in this position provides proactive assistance, research, and advice on various legal and compliance issues, and assists university legal counsel in responding to external administrative charges and external litigation for **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (UM) Missoula, Montana Tech, UM Western, and Helena College campuses (“UM and Affiliate Campuses”).
Essential duties and responsibilities associated with this position include:
Assist university counsel in responding to federal administrative charges, including but not limited to complaints before the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
Conduct internal investigations under the direction and supervision of university counsel
Draft contracts, agreements and other legal documents
Review and draft policies and procedures
Assist with development of compliance programs
Advise on employment disputes and proceedings and assisting on a broad range of student affairs matters
Assist with litigation matters
Conduct training on federal and state laws and University policies
Assist in developing compliance programs for UM and its affiliate campuses
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package
including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
Salary for this position is $ 65,000 - $75,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.
Minimum Requirements
JD and a license to practice law or sit for 2022 bar exam with results pending
Demonstrated interests in higher education law and creating equitable and inclusive academic communities
Demonstrated ability to organize information with an analytical mindset to create clear and professionally designed written deliverables
Demonstrated ability to maintain exceptional ethical standards and consistently demonstrate sound professional judgment
Demonstrated ability to practice discretion, maintain professional confidences, and protect privileged communications
Superior and professional writing, communication, and presentation skills
Capacity to thrive professionally in a vibrant academic community and to approach complex legal challenges with a growth mindset, flexibility, creativity, and with measured temperament
General knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications and other software programs to develop presentations and work product in a variety of formats to meet client expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
Brings creative and unique perspective to problem-solving based on background and personal experiences.
Excellent skills using software tools to organize, track and present information.
