The Department of Psychology at the University of Montana invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2023. We seek applicants with a PhD in Social Psychology (or PhD in Psychology with a Social Psychology emphasis) to serve as a core faculty member in our Experimental Psychology area. A PhD degree is required at the time of appointment. The area of scholarly emphasis for this position is open.

Applicants must provide evidence of scholarly productivity commensurate with experience, potential to establish and maintain a program of research, evidence of effectiveness in teaching, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Primary responsibilities will include contributing to the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs through teaching and research. Teaching responsibilities will be specific to social psychology (undergraduate and graduate), with additional undergraduate or graduate courses to fulfill departmental needs. Such courses may include history and systems, teaching of psychology, a specific topical seminar in the applicant’s area of expertise, among others. A typical teaching load is two courses per semester, with the potential for teaching online courses. In addition, the faculty member will mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research and scholarship and serve on students’ MA and PhD thesis and dissertation committees.

New faculty members are provided a financial research start-up package, lab space, and reduced teaching responsibilities. Faculty members are expected to develop strong research programs in their areas of expertise and are encouraged to collaborate with faculty and students in other departmental research areas.
