Job Description:

The Office of Equity and Inclusion at the State University of New York College (SUNY) at Oneonta invites application for the position of Assistant Director of the Center for Racial Justice and Inclusive Excellence.

The Assistant Director will partner with the Director to provide visionary leadership for the Center for Racial Justice and Inclusive Excellence (CRJIE) whose mission is to foster a safe space and a sense of belonging for all members of the SUNY Oneonta community. The CRJIE will provide a new space for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) to be taught, learned, and celebrated as well as opportunities for the campus community to engage in collaborative education and experiences related to DEI. The position in partnership with the Director will contribute, significantly, to ongoing progress on the campus' diversity, equity, racial justice, and inclusive excellence goals. It will also enhance the progress on student retention, persistence, and completion rates, especially for students from underrepresented backgrounds.

In this role, the Assistant Director will collaborate in efforts to provide a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment committed to the success of all students and to enhance a shared sense of belonging. This includes creating programming, educational opportunities, and initiatives that address diversity-related topics affecting the student body - developing and implementing programs that promote students' development of intercultural competence; and organizing programs that enhance students' capacity for critical thought around issues of diversity and inclusion, as well as their ability to engage across differences and create inclusive spaces. Also working in close partnership with the Center Director and colleagues across campus, the position will assist with creating campus- wide diversity and inclusion trainings, programs, and events, including the celebration of various heritage months and engage in direct support and advocacy efforts.

A vital member of the CRJIE/OEI administrative team, the Assistant Director of the CRJIE will provide support for unit programs and functions and will report to the Director of the Center. Workdays for the position will occasionally include evening hours and weekends.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Facilitate the day-to-day operations of the Center for Racial Justice and Inclusive Excellence; this include coordinating the day-to-day activities of the racial/social justice Museum & Learning Center within the CRJIE, coordinating campus and community schedules, tracking visits/participation, and assessing activities.

Hire, train and supervise student managers to monitor the Center and to provide support for programs, events and other activities held in the Center.

Provide leadership development opportunities for student organization officers and trainings to student organizations.

Ensure the provision of supportive spaces in the Center for students of marginalized groups on campus.

Plan and organize the CRJIE Q Welcome Back event each semester in collaboration with the Program Coordinator.

Oversee internship opportunities for students interested in racial justice and other DEI-related fields.

Support the designing and coordination of programs within the Center with a focus on racial/social justice and other identity related issues, in collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs.

Assist the Center Director with the planning and organization of campus-wide activities to commemorate MLK Day, Women's History Month, and various Heritage Months (Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Native American Heritage Month, etc.), and events/dates.

Assist Office of Equity and Inclusion Staff in planning and facilitating expanded DEI trainings, as needed.

Assist with the planning and organization of the annual Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) in collaboration with the SDLC Planning Committee and other relevant partners.

Serve on campus committees as requested/needed.

Complete other duties as assigned

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
