Founding Occupational Therapy Academic Fieldwork Coordinator/ Assistant or Associate Professor

. The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator of the Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program (OTD) will work closely with the School of Speech, Language, Hearing, and Occupational Sciences Chair and the OTD Program Director to develop and implement the OTD program. The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator is specifically responsible for the program’s compliance with the fieldwork requirements of Standards Section C.1.0 and is assigned to the occupational therapy educational program as a full-time core faculty member as defined by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator may be assigned other institutional duties that do not interfere with the management and administration of the fieldwork program.

The Occupational Therapy Doctoral Program (DOT) is being designed to meet accreditation standards established by ACOTE and slated to accept the first cohort of students in the fall of 2024. The OTD Program is part of University of Montana’s College of Health that houses the School of Speech, Language, Hearing & Occupational Sciences (SLHOS). The College of Health has a strong tradition of supporting outstanding teaching research and scholarship to promotion interprofessional health programming and is home to the health professions training programs of Physical Therapy, Social Work, Pharmacy, and the SLHOS School. The SLHOS School houses the speech-language pathology MS, PhD, and undergraduate programming in addition to the new DOT program. The SLHOS School was developed to support the OTD launch and related faculty development and provides an ideal home for interprofessional academic training, clinical, and research activities.

Position Details

Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package

including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.

Salary for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications

Certification as an occupational therapist. Applicants must be registered by NBCOT and must be eligible for an OT license for the State of Montana

Doctoral degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Prefer PhD, but will consider OTD

Two or more (2 ) years of documented experience in the field of occupational therapy including:

Clinical practice as an occupational therapist

Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and commitment to excellence in teaching students

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills including the ability to work with diverse populations

Ability to teach independently in a graduate clinical program

Ability to learn and apply new technologies

Ability to collaborate with professionals in academic and clinical settings; team-oriented

The mission of the School of Speech, Language, Hearing, & Occupational Sciences is to prepare students for progressive, collaborative, and research-minded careers in speech-language pathology, audiology, and related fields through rigorous academic and clinical training. We strive to be innovative in the use of technology and program delivery to provide services to traditionally under-served regions and populations. Through our emphasis on typical and atypical speech, language, cognition, swallowing, and hearing function, students gain knowledge and skills along with ethical and culturally competent values that foster a commitment to lifelong learning and civic engagement.

The School of Speech, Language, Hearing, and Occupational Sciences is accredited through the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and offers the following programs: (1) a Ph.D. doctoral degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences, (2) a Master’s of Science (MS) degree in Speech-Language Pathology, (3) a bachelor’s degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders, (4) a Post-baccalaureate Leveling Certificate, (5) and a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) certificate. An occupational therapy graduate program will be launched in the near future. The School currently has 6 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 6 non-tenure track clinical assistant professors in speech, language, and hearing sciences, and additional academic and clinical adjuncts. The School currently has approximately 3 PhD students, 70 master’s students, 115 undergraduate majors, 70 leveling students, and 40 SLPA students. SLHOS faculty deliver content via direct, campus-based course instruction, synchronous online instruction, and asynchronous online instruction. Faculty direct active research labs and conduct rigorous research in addition to commitment to the scholarship of teaching. In addition, faculty are committed to innovative clinical training programs conducted through the on-campus DeWit RiteCare Speech, Language, Hearing Clinic. SLHOS faculty foster and enjoy interprofessional research and training collaborations across international, regional, and campus partnerships.
