ABOUT THE JOB

The University of Cincinnati (UC) Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EECS) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) invites applications for a Sr. Research Associate in Electrical and Computer Engineering. We seek candidates in the area hardware security, assurance and trust (HWS&T).

 

EECS is dedicated to educational excellence and developing and sustaining premier research programs with national and international recognition. The chosen candidate will be expected to contribute (at both the graduate and undergraduate level) to the department's educational and mentoring mission of preparing students to become high-performing professionals in the workplace. The chosen candidate will also be expected to contribute to the advancement of research missions within the department and college.

JOB OVERVIEW

Performing research in the area of HW Security, Assurance and Trust. Leading a research team of one or more graduate students. Writing and publishing in relevant journals and conference proceedings. Helping to write proposals in areas related to HWS&T.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

*Coordinate and perform research studies in the area of HW Security, Assurance, and Trust. *Make independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training and experience. *Independently decide how to solve issues/problems and rely upon their own resources to resolve the issue. *Contribute to the collective team effort. *Assist with writing proposals in areas related to HWS&T. *Accomplish assigned results for projects/studies, or for significant aspects of larger, complex assignments. *Serve as a seasoned level researcher and lead a research team of one or more graduate students. *Perform related duties based on departmental need.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or a closely related field

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

*Three (3) years of research experience in the relevant areas of expertise.  *Extensive experience in using and programming FPGAs.  *Knowledge of IEEE 1149.x standard.   *Experience in JTAG programming, TAP controllers.   *Experience in developing and implementing digital circuits for FPGAs and ASICs.  *Proficiency in VHDL or Verilog coding for modeling hardware systems.   *Proficiency in FPGA Embedded Processors software development using C/C++.  *Experience with Xilinx / Intel FPGAs and Vivado / Quartus tools.  *Experience in understanding and analyzing FPGA bit files and architectures for reverse engineering.  *Proficiency in Matlab or Python for data analysis.  *Experience in Perl or Tcl/Tk is plus.  *Experience with In-Circuit-Debuggers/Emulators, Logic Analyzers, Oscilloscopes.  *Experience with modeling and implementing memory based PUFs for HWS&T.  *Experience in Asynchronous circuit design.   *Experience in writing custom EDA tools/algorithms.   *Experience in power-based side-channel analysis.  *Experience in ASIC design flow RTL-GDSII implementation.  *Proficient in Cadence and Synopsys tools such as HSpice, Virtuoso, Genus, and Innovus.  *Experience in partition level place and route implementation, floorplanning, clock & power distribution, timing closure etc.   *Understanding of circuit design, device physics and deep submicron technology.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED

*A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or a closely related field.  *Demonstrated research experience.   *Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills  *Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team  *Ability to write grants and proposals in the area of HW S&T  *US citizenship or permanent residency (green card) is required to work in an ITAR work environment
