Applications are invited from professionally qualified persons (GMC/ NMC/ AHPC registered) for the role of Sessional Clinical Skills Tutor at the University of Plymouth Peninsula Medical School (PMS). A number of opportunities are available for immediate appointment with role commencement for academic year 2021-22 (September – June). The Peninsula Medical School has established an international reputation for quality education and is highly regarded by students for the quality of their experience. The undergraduate medical programme is an innovative integrated spiral curriculum with clinical contact introduced at the outset of the 5 year programme. You will help implement the delivery and assessment of the clinical skills aspects of the undergraduate medical programme at PMS. You will work with the Senior Clinical Skills Tutor and other Clinical Skills Tutors to implement the Clinical Skills Programmes on offer to students. Teaching/assessment sessions are available weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the academic year. There are several time slots on each of the following days: Tuesdays: 0900-1100hrs 1230-1430hrs 1500-1700hrs Thursdays: 0830-1030hrs 1030-1230hrs 1300-1500hrs 1500-1700hrs Applicants must be able to commit to a minimum of one single 2 hours teaching session on either Tuesday or Thursday throughout the academic year. The frequency of this commitment is negotiable. Tutors will be paid an additional 1-hour preparation time per topic taught. The teaching sessions are provided for 1st and 2nd Year medical students primarily, with some opportunities for input into senior years training and training as part of other programmes of study. During the course of the academic year the sessions will also involve assessment of students via clinical competencies. The teaching topics are varied and include a range of basic to more complex skills, using part-task training manikins to hi-fidelity simulation manikins. You must have a broad range of clinical experience in your profession and possess good communication and presentation skills. A Postgraduate Teaching qualification would be an advantage to the post, although not essential. You will be required to work on a sessional basis as part of a multi-disciplinary team and demonstrate the ability to teach clinical skills to the highest standards. You will have experience of clinical education in your own profession. Depending upon previous experience you may be required to undertake some initial training in teaching clinical and communication skills prior to the commencement of the post. This role will require an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check plus an Adults’ Barred List check.
