ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Systems Development & Improvement (SDI) Center in Columbus, Ohio fosters the development, implementation, and evaluation of PK20 education research and demonstration efforts that improve opportunities to learn for children and youth, their families, and the professionals who support them. At the core of many Center activities is a commitment to advocacy on behalf of all children, as well as partnerships - with school districts, with professional associations, with institutions of higher education, with regional providers, with the state - that improve conditions and outcomes for students with disabilities and other marginalized groups of learners (e.g., learners who are economically disadvantaged, learners at risk of school failure for a variety of reasons, etc.).

JOB OVERVIEW

The Systems Development & Improvement Center in Columbus, Ohio is seeking a Research Associate to: Help conduct research work in educational leadership aligned with Center focus areas in PK20 education. Support knowledge development in inclusive instructional leadership and the application of knowledge and implementation of evidence-based practices by practitioners. Encompasses individuals with graduate and advanced graduate degrees who have a high level of competency in research but may not have an independent research program.

 

Funding for this position is based upon the availability of external funds.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

*Support the research agenda related to the mission of the UC Systems Development & Improvement Center (UC SDI) to foster the development, implementation, and evaluation of PK20 education research and demonstration efforts that improve opportunities to learn for children and youth, their families, and the professionals who support them. *Identify and obtain sources of funding to support and expand the UC SDI research agenda. *Support the design and delivery of professional learning content and delivery formats using a variety of computer technologies to improve district, school, and teacher team instructional capacity to promote equity and social justice and improve results for all groups of students through the use of inclusive instructional leadership practices. *Support continuous improvement in the development and dissemination of high-quality professional learning materials and related resources with an understanding of systemic improvement using Ohio's improvement framework (i.e., OIP-OLAC) and experience in curriculum development and instructional design. *Identify and foster relationships to extend the Center's work to support state-identified priorities and statewide initiatives for improving equitable opportunities to learn for all children; particularly in the provision of professional development, coaching, and technical assistance in key Center focus areas (e.g., inclusive instructional leadership practice for district and school-level personnel). *Contribute to building strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., school districts, regional providers, institutions of higher education, state officials), partners, consultants, and others to continually improve the quality, relevance, and usefulness of Center services and the effective implementation of approved project activities. *Play a key research role in action research and plan-do-study-act cycles, and collaborating on program evaluation design and delivery, including plans for formative and summative evaluation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CONTINUED

*Solve problems using combined research knowledge; including organizing data search and analysis procedures, summarizing results, and reporting findings; Perform statistical and graphical analysis of data, interpret data and assist in judging validity of data. *Independently work on designated whole projects/problems, while also working as part of collaborative Center teams and contributing effectively to the collective team effort to accomplish assigned results for project/studies. *Make presentations at a variety of national, state, regional, and local meetings and events to expand awareness and reach of Center project activities. *May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.). 

REQUIRED EDUCATION

Master's degree in a profession/field or equivalent level of knowledge.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

*District or school-level leadership experience. *Experience in supporting adult learning through the provision of professional development and coaching. *Experience in developing proposals and obtaining funded projects in response to competitive requests for application/proposals. *Understanding of Ohio's system of education, including the state's improvement framework. *Experience with specialized software programs.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED

*Doctoral degree in the field of education or related area. *Previous participation in the Ohio Leadership for Inclusion, Implementation, and Instructional Improvement (OLi4) project as a trainee, trainer, facilitator, or coach. *Completion of Ohio Leadership Advisory Council (OLAC) facilitator training.
