invites applications for a

Computer Systems Analyst II

to join their team. The Systems Analyst for the Office of Student Success (OSS) has three primary expectations:

Oversee and manage the information technology and critical assessment needs of all units that report to the Office for Student Success. The scope of the oversight includes defining and standardizing technical and operational procedures for the OSS units and coordinating with the technical staff and directors of each of the OSS units to ensure a secure, unified, maintainable technical environment for the organization.

Manage all development, implementation, production and reporting components of all the internal and external student retention data systems. Management of these systems includes full lifecycle software development and project management from needs assessment, functional design, data integration, testing, procedure development, training, SQL report development and program assessment.

Serve with the OSS Director of Technology Solutions as a student success ombudsman by closely collaborating with other academic and administrative units across campus to identify technology and process issues that may impact or enhance student success, present solutions for improvement to the appropriate department directors and executive officers and directly manage, facilitate and participate in the implementation of approved enhancements. Key to the success of these process improvements is the education of staff across campus to ensure that solutions are effectively adopted across the mixed centralized/decentralized structure of the advising community.

The Computer Systems Analyst will be responsible for some management and supervision tasks, including:

Serve as project manager for assigned projects and coordinate and supervise the work of others.

Develop and gain cooperation from individuals or groups over whom there is no direct authority in order to accomplish program goals.

Oversee completion of projects within established budgets and timelines.

At the direction of the Director of Student Success Technology Solutions and the Executive Director of the Office for Student Success, the position collaborates with technology- and systems-related staff from other campus units and sectors.

Upon completion of training, the incumbent will have working knowledge of the University of Montana and Higher Education.

Required Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge and experience with advising management software.

Knowledge and experience in data wrangling (data cleaning, merging datasets, identifying gaps or errors or outliers).

Strong ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and quickly identify technical problems and find solutions.

Knowledge and experience in computer testing techniques when applied to complex and large systems.

Demonstrated proficiency with web content management.

Familiarity with college-level academic policies and processes including waitlists, probation and suspension, withdrawals and reinstatements.

Ability to learn and analyze the undergraduate curriculum, graduation requirements, admissions procedures, placement processes, and other highly-detailed information which can vary from college or even department.

Ability to forge and foster a professional relationship with those in the advising community at UM.

Ability to identify common challenges for advisors and to abstract a solution that can work across multiple units.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in project management and analysis.

Strong time management and multitasking skills.

Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making.

Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.

Strong ability to work independently, attention to detail.

Ability to complete projects on time.

Ability to identify, detail, and prioritize projects to be proposed for development.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Ability to write and document technical and operational

Strong experience with proactively sharing knowledge with peers.

Experience with training others on technologies or procedures either remotely or in live sessions.

Minimum Required Experience

High School diploma and two (2) years of experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with EAB Navigate software.

Education beyond Bachelor’s degree such as a Master’s degree, certifications, or professional development that is tech-related.

Experience in academic advising.

Knowledge and experience in relational databases such as: Oracle and associated toolset, SQL, SQL , and PL/SQL, Microsoft Access, and SQL Server.

Ability to organize and facilitate Business Process Redesign projects.

Experience with an enterprise-wide advising-related technology project as either a key domain expert for a process or as a developer/implementor to build the solution.
