Based in the Faculty of Health, the School of Psychology is one of the largest and best-resourced psychology departments in the UK. Covering all areas of psychology, the School shares its expertise and enthusiasm for psychology with over 800 students and offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, all accredited by the British Psychological Society. Graduates go on to pursue a wide range of careers after studying their first degree. Whether continuing studying for a further degree or looking for employment straight away, our emphasis on employability will put our students ahead of other graduates. Plymouth is a centre of excellence in psychological research. In the last Research Excellence Framework assessment over 80% of our research outputs were rated as either of international (3*) or world-leading (4*) quality – in the top 20 nationally on this measure. The School holds an Athena SWAN Bronze award in recognition of a commitment to improving gender equality demonstrating the University’s ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality and success for all. We are recruiting a Clinical Director to lead the Clinical Tutor team and the placement learning component of the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme at the University of Plymouth when the current postholder retires in December 2022. The clinical tutor team play a crucial role in supporting the development of clinical psychology trainees across the three years of the programme through planning and monitoring clinical placements, providing advice and support to trainees and supervisors. The role of Clinical Director not only involves leading the clinical tutor team but also involves building strong partnerships with psychology services across our placement area which covers South Devon, Plymouth, & Cornwall to ensure provision of excellent training placements and that training meets the needs of local services. Contribution to other aspects of programme delivery will also include teaching, assessment, and research supervision. There are also opportunities to contribute to teaching and research within the broader School of Psychology and Faculty of Health. The Plymouth Clinical Psychology programme has been providing high-quality clinical psychology training in the South West for the past 40 years and was the first programme to adopt a doctoral training model. The programme is committed to values-based practice; working with compassion, courage, and creativity, in partnership with service users and communities to promote social inclusion, diversity, equality and health for all. The programme has longstanding strengths in systemic approaches and is currently working towards BABCP accreditation in CBT, we also have a flourishing programme of community psychology placements. The programme benefits from being part of the School of Psychology within a large Faculty of Health which also provides medical, dental, general, and mental health nursing, social work, and seven different allied health professions training. The University recently created a centre to facilitate interprofessional learning across the Faculty.
