Pasadena, CA  — The Senate approved a $26.1 billion bill, from which $10 billion would go towards saving 138,000 teaching jobs across the country. The remaining money will be used for extending healthcare for poor people.

The bill is expected to save 2,200 jobs in South Carolina, 4,500 jobs in North Carolina, and 13,500 jobs in California. The bill will allow school districts to not just keep existing teachers but also recall laid-off teachers and other education professionals. Almost 70 percent of the expected layoffs would have been of teachers. Schools across the country were already struggling with declining budgets and had taken to cutting back on energy usage, transportation, closing libraries and even going on a four-day school week.

The bill is expected to save as well as create thousands of teaching jobs in subjects such as art, technology and foreign languages. A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of EducationCrossing sees this bill as an opportunity for teachers. ''This means teaching opportunities are now available for teachers with the required credentials throughout the country. We have almost 7,000 teaching jobs on our site and several of them are in programs which were cut or were on the cutting block just a few weeks ago.''

Testimonial of the Week

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
