Pasadena, CA — There are still over 12,000 teaching jobs available nationwide, even though talk about proposed massive layoffs in public schools keeps making the news everyday.

Over a 100,000 jobs in the public schools, including a lot of teaching positions are expected to be cut this year if Congress does not provide $23 billion in funding soon. There are already layoffs in school districts throughout the country. Montgomery County in Maryland has plans to eliminate 252 teaching positions, Florida's Broward school district is going to layoff 568 teachers and North Carolina's Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools board has voted to layoff over 500 teachers.

''Teachers need to be proactive in these times. Don't relax thinking that your school district is not in danger or at the last minute a federal bailout is going to come through..'' says A. Harrison Barnes, the CEO of EducationCrossing. ''Start looking up opportunities throughout the country, especially in the private schools. Most public schools are facing massive deficits this year and will have to go in for downsizing. This trend is going to continue for the next few years.''

Barnes adds, ''Even though most private schools pay less than public schools, many public school teachers enjoy working in the private schools because of their management policies and more traditional policies regarding students.''
