Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
VCU
has an exciting opportunity for a clinical research nurse practitioner!
The clinical research nurse practitioner provides direct care to potential candidates for and participants in
VCU
Wright Center, Institute for Drug and Alcohol Studies, and Addiction Psychiatry clinical research protocols (in collaboration with treating physicians and/or principal/local investigators) through: performance of complex patient care functions individualized to each patient; recognizing and responding appropriately to deviations from normal; and identifying, interpreting, analyzing and evaluating patients’ condition and making alterations in treatment and diagnostic regimens.
The clinical research nurse practitioner collaborates with providers and research team members to facilitate clinical research nursing and data management components of the clinical trial program. The individual coordinates the evaluation, treatment and follow-up of clinical trial candidates, and participants in both inpatient consultation, emergency room, and ambulatory settings, educating staff at local and partner sites about clinical trials and related patient care. The clinical research nurse practitioner consults with local and collaborating physicians and staff about patient care issues.
Additionally, the clinical research nurse practitioner evaluates, uses and refines systems for data collection and collaborates with research team members to ensure data accuracy and integrity. The individual collaborates closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and clinical research team to ensure that key federal/state/local regulatory requirements are followed; that institutional operational research objectives are met; and that ethical obligations are kept. The clinical research nurse practitioner develops, establishes and maintains productive relationships with

colleagues, all customers and contacts at affiliate sites to achieve essential research outcomes.
Minimum Hiring Standards
The ideal candidate will meet the following minimum hiring standards:
Holds active Nurse Practitioner licensure in Virginia.
BSN
from an accredited school of nursing, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of addiction/behavioral medicine care.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Independent decision-making skills.
Venipuncture skills and experience in pharmacotherapy for addictions.
Clinical experience in addictions.
Ability to provide own transportation to meet with patients within
VCU
Health and Wright Center locations.
Ability to attend meetings within the locations and at training locations.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at
VCU
Preferred Hiring Standards
The ideal candidate will also meet the following preferred hiring standards:
Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience with patients on clinical trials.
Required Licenses/ Certifications
Current Nurse Practitioner licensure in Virginia.
Anticipated Hiring Range
85,000-110,000
