The Nursing Professional Development Specialist at Yale New Haven Health System is built upon the Nursing professional development, Scope and Standards of practice framework. A specialized nursing practice that facilitates the professional role development and growth of nurses and other healthcare personnel along the continuum from novice to expert. 1. Education
1 .1 Assesses the learning needs based on regulatory requirements, evidence-based practice, and staff-identified needs.
1 .2 Designs and implements learning opportunities at the health system, hospital, and/or service line level.
1 .3 Uses multimodal teaching in provided learning opportunities
1 .4 Collaborates among service lines and other delivery networks to offer high quality , standardized education across the health system.
1 .5 Evaluates the outcomes of education programs.
2. Role Development
2 .1 Supports the development of nursing leadership skills in self and clinical nursing staff according to ANA Standards of Practice, to promote professional nursing practice and quality patient care.
2 .2 Mentors and supports staff to develop as professionals through formal / informal education, specialty certification, membership in professional organization, and opportunities for advancement.
2 .3 Assists staff with portfolio development for clinical advancement.
2 .4 Mentors staff through the professional governance process.
2 .5 Acts as a role model to promote the nursing profession
3. Collaborative Partnerships
3 .1 Represents nursing in the development of interprofessional learning activities.
3 .2 Acts as education and practice expert in consultation with patient safety nurses, clinical outcomes leaders, and other nurse leaders
3 .3 Serves as subject matter expert and education
3 .4 Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team across the health system to promote high quality patient care.
3 .5 Serves as a content expert in the development of policy, procedures & nursing practice
3 .6 Participates as a member of their specialty nursing organization
3 .7 Advances organizational initiatives as a direct or indirect change agent.
3 .8 Consults with performance improvement teams in the design of education plans.
4 Champion of Scientific Inquiry
4 .1 Develops, educates, and implements quality improvement initiatives and outcomes across the organization
4 .2 Integrates nursing performance indicators in educational activities.
4 .3 Identifies and responds to learning opportunities based on quality metrics.
4 .4 Gathers, synthesizes, uses, and communicates best evidence to support bedside practice and educational design as appropriate.
4 .5 Identifies and addresses variations in clinical practice by promoting standardization based on the best evidence.
4 .6 Provides leadership for the implementation of evidence-based practice.
4 .7 Supports the generation of new knowledge.
5. Orientation
5 .1 Develops, implements, and manages competency based orientation
5 .2 Facilitates, evaluates, and supports the orientation of new staff to the organization or new to the practice setting

6. Competency Management
6 .1 Develops initial and ongoing competencies
6 .2 Identifies learning needs to ensure practice competencies in collaboration with nursing unit leadership.
Masters degree or higher required , one degree must be in nursing ( Either BS or MS in nursing)
HVC procedural RN experience required , one year of relevant teaching experience preferred, nursing staff development and/or specialty area preferred
Demonstrates ability to develop, deliver, and evaluate educational programs. Telemetry skills required.
Licensure as a RN in the state of CT & Nursing Board Certification within 2 years of hire.  ACLS Certification required.
