New Mexico Connections Academy (NMCA) is a tuition-free, virtual public school serving students in grades 4–12 throughout the state. The school is authorized by the New Mexico Public Education Commission, and governed by an independent Governing Council. The school is operated by New Mexico Connections Academy, a government entity, to provide its educational program and other services. NMCA is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, an accrediting division of AdvancED.
Working from a combination of your home and our Santa Fe office, certified the Mathematics Specialist/Substitute Teacher will “virtually” manage instructional programs. Through use of the telephone, Internet and various curriculum tools the Mathematics Specialist/Substitute Teacher will consult regularly with learning coaches and students to ensure that each child successfully completes his/her instructional program. The position will support different classrooms and fill in as a substitute as needed. This is a full- time teaching position with benefits.
The Mathematics Specialist/Substitute position fulfills the role of instructor and, as such, may be assigned to teach Algebra I.
As a Coach, a specialist works with teachers to identify areas of processional need and provide targeted instruction during push-in or pull-out situations.
Be deeply knowledgeable in specialty area and up to date with all professional trends.
Demonstrate mastery of school programs and work actively to continually shape programmatic elements.
Constantly seek new resources to enrich teacher/district team’s performance
Assist all teachers using GLAD strategies effectively
Work collaboratively with all teachers to facilitate seamless delivery of program services to all learners.
Gather and use data to analyze student, grade-level, and building level performance, as well as use technology to prepare reports and presentations.
Complete all grading, create report cards and conduct parent conferences in a timely and manner
Support the instructional program with asynchronous web conferencing sessions.
Communicate with parents, students and other teachers on a regular basis to develop and update Personal Learning Plans and schedules, score assessments, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional approaches and strategies, monitor completion of assignments and coach special projects.
Work collaboratively with a team of teachers to ensure that all students on the team’s caseload are successfully progressing through the program that parents have a central point of contact, and that tasks are distributed evenly amongst the team members.
Support students and parents with alternate strategies and provide additional assistance with daily assignments and projects.
Communicate regularly with parents, students, and curriculum specialists through use of computer and telephone.
Keep student records and data up-to-date, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance accounting, and logging all student and parent contacts.
Work with Advisory Teachers and School counselor to ensure students and families are receiving appropriate communications, students are making adequate progress and established goals are being met.
Other duties as assigned.
Highly qualified and certified to teach Math in New Mexico (appropriate to grade level responsibilities)
Must reside within a commutable distance of Santa Fe, NM
May be required to work as a substitute teacher
