Assume responsibility for all elements of development and operation of student services, to include but not be limited to such areas as special education, oversight of Section 504 enforcement and provision of services for students with disabilities, preschool programs, support services, compliance, and home instruction.
Holds an undergraduate or postgraduate professional certificate with endorsement in special education Holds a postgraduate professional certificate with endorsement in school administration and shall have completed those courses at the graduate level that are pertinent to the assignment
Have at least three years' experience in administration. Some building level administration preferred.
Have demonstrated professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community
Possess high moral standards and integrity
Division level experience in at least one area of student services preferred
Training in investigation of Section 504 complaints involving disability discrimination and/or harassment

Chief Academic Officer (CAO)
Keep abreast of educational development and provide leadership in bringing pertinent innovative programs into the schools in the area of special education Direct initiatives, projects and programs in the areas of special education and Section 504 services to students with disabilities
Develop policies and procedures in compliance with federal and state regulations as they relate to special education and Section 504 for students with disabilities
Provide technical assistance to division staff
Manage federal and state compliance requirements including the provisions required for mediation, complaints, and due process hearings
Assist the Directors of Elementary and Secondary Instruction in the preparation of curriculum guides and materials
Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate the work of the coordinators and support personnel in organizing and administering student services
Assist in the preparation and expenditures of that part of the budget related to student services
Manage local and VI-B budget
Evaluate needs for special education staff and manage the assignment of staff to buildings based on the number of students in each building and the services required
Evaluate student services staffing needs and make recommendations to the CAO
Evaluate and identify interventions to support specialized instruction for students with disabilities
Assist in planning and implementing appropriate staff development activities for student services personnel ,
and teachers and administrators, as appropriate
Coordinate investigation of all Section 504 complaints and implement established procedures as they relate to complaints of disability discrimination, including harassment
Perform other duties as assigned

Terms of Employment:
Salary according to School Board Pay Plan.
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations.
