Position Summary:

Calibr, a division of Scripps Research, is seeking a highly motivated individual to play a key role in project management of global health drug discovery projects, and a leading role in antiviral drug discovery from screening concept through early stage translational research.

Position Description

DUTIES

Project Management Role

• Work with project teams to develop work plans based on aligned scope, budget, timelines, resources

• Track project team progress against goals (project milestones, deliverables)

• Track and appropriately communicate status, decisions, actions, risks and issues to stakeholders

• Review and edit scientific presentations for scientific content, accuracy before stakeholder presentations, as needed

• Assist with writing funding proposals, white papers and progress reports, and generating presentations

• Ensure project teams are appropriately resourced to achieve goals set

• Participate in decision-making processes within a multi-disciplinary project team by actively engaging in scientific and technical discussions

Virology Role

• Develop and optimize high-throughput phenotypic and / or target-based assays to support antiviral drug discovery projects

• Establish compound progression workflows to support medicinal chemistry programs

• Manage a project team to generate high-quality assay data to support decision making for compound progression and successfully execute on deliverables

• Regularly communicate (both in writing and verbally) project status, key issues, strategy and accomplishments to various management and stakeholder groups

• Critically evaluate project data while rigorously driving data-driven go/no-go decisions, including the identification of resource constraints and bottlenecks

• Contribute to an overall group culture of collaboration, motivation, innovation

Physical Requirements:

This position works in a typical office and/or laboratory environment. With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to sit and type at a computer terminal for up to 8 hours per day with appropriate breaks and perform tasks that require fine dexterity and repetitive motions using the arms, hands, wrists and fingers. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.

Basic Qualifications:

• Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant scientific field, or MS with at least 10-15 years of drug experience, including at least 3 years of supervisory experience

• Experienced virologist with a strong background in small molecule drug discovery

• Highly self-motivated, driven with a sense of urgency; a collaborative team player but can operate with a high degree of independence

• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage time-sensitive projects simultaneously with high level of attention to detail and accuracy

• Ability to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced, highly matrixed work environment

• Able to provide leadership on a cross-functional team

• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

• Passion for helping patients, especially the most vulnerable populations
