JOB
SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Reporting to the Archivist and
Special Collections Librarian, the Communications Coordinator I organizes and
creates library marketing materials in conjunction with Library faculty,
departments, and committees. Designs and creates print and digital materials
for diverse library services, activities, and programs. Assists with ensuring
library marketing materials follow UTHSC branding guidelines and quality
standards and with the management of the Health Sciences Library’s historical
collections. Organizes, inventories, describes, and digitizes campus archival
materials, rare books, photographs, and artifacts. Exhibits and markets
materials.

 

DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborates with Library departments on the strategic
alignment of communications within the library and to the broader
institution.Adheres to branding guidelines outlined by the Office
of Communications and Marketing.Organizes, describes, and preserves archival
collections of library materials according to archival standards and best
practices.Produces graphic materials for historical collection
exhibits and marketing.Creates descriptive inventories of rare book,
manuscript, photograph, and artifact collections.Manages historical collections on social media.Digitizes photographs and negatives, print
dissertations, and other library materials in accordance to archival
standards and best practices.Responds to reference requests from internal and
external patrons.Creates descriptive metadata for digital materials.Uploads digitized content to Institutional Repository.Performs other related duties as assigned.
','!*!MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

 

EDUCATION: 
Bachelor’s degree in communications, art/graphic design, marketing,
or related field (TRANSCRIPT
REQUIRED)

 

EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience in communications, marketing, graphic design, or
related area; OR a combination of related education and experience to
equal nine (9) years. (Working knowledge of photo-enhancing software such as
Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom preferred).

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND
ABILITIES:

Excellent communication, personal, listening, written,
and presentation skills. Demonstrated knowledge of the media.Ability to effectively write for a news audience using
the prescribed format, tone, and Associated Press (AP) style, as required.
Strong proofreading, editing, and writing skills are
essential. Ability to work with diverse faculty and staff of
various experience levels. Knowledge, skill, and ability to use Microsoft Office
Suite and Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and
Illustrator. Strong knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook,
Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) and ability to strategically use platforms. Working knowledge of Google Analytics with ability and
skill set to run reports and decipher data. Knowledgeable of current online marketing techniques
and best practices.Exceptionally well-organized and detail-oriented. Ability to work independently and work effectively as a
team member. Ability to artistically direct and take photographs.

 

WORK
SCHEDULE: This position may be occasionally required to work evenings
and weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.

 

An
official transcript or documentation to verify education must be submitted in a
sealed envelope to the Human Resources Department prior to first day of
employment if selected for a position.
