Under the direct administrative supervision of the Associate Director of Facilities Management. The superintendent of building services is responsible for building service functions (such as area cleaning, floor treatment, window washing, refuse collection and disposal and other related services) on campus.
15% Responsible for assisting with coordination of the day-to-day housekeeping. Develops efficient and effective cleaning programs for all university buildings. Administers an effective pest management programs.
15% Supervises work related activities of staff to ensure the coordination and efficient operations. Establishes working schedules and work load regulations and approves methods to accomplish accepted standards of cleaning.
15% Responsible for continuous programs of staff training and development to assure appropriate use of supplies, chemicals and cleaning equipment. Prepares and presents Building Services reports with responsibility for coordinating and determining goals and objectives, appropriate implementation of procedures and following through activities.
15% Explains, interprets and supervises the implementation of University, Civil Service and departmental policies and procedures and rules to staff members.
10% Assist with the development of budgets, manages expenditure of funds. Prepare reports and cost analysis for purchase, repair and replacement of equipment and supplies and submit special work orders.
10% Coordinates assigned work order services with various trades and other departments, adapts programs to address needs of university personnel. Job Responsibilities (Essential Duties Cont.) Competencies & Level Approx. Percent of Time Essential Duties
10% Maintains continuing review and evaluation of housekeeping standards, procedures and work methods by means of periodic inspections and special studies of problems that arise.
10% Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:
1. Any one or any combination of the following types of preparation:
(A.) credit for progressively more advanced college course work leading to a major in any field
(B.) work experience having full responsibility for the supervision, work assignments, and control of employees performing institutional housekeeping duties (such as a fore-person in institutional custodial operations)
that totals 1.0 unit according to the following conversion rates:
Bachelor’s degree (or 120 semester hours) of “a” = 1.0 unit
three years of “b” = 1.0 unit
Amounts of training or experience less than those listed above should be converted to decimal equivalents of 1.0 unit and added together when computing combination of the different types of preparation.
2. five years of work experience in the management of institutional housekeeping programs, three of which may have been in a supervisory capacity, in addition to the training/experience required in #1 above
