Overview
AIR is currently seeking a Research Assistant o join our Education Statistics program area within AIR\u2019s Human Services Division to aid us with improving outcomes in Education. The Research Assistant would contribute to the development of statistics about education that inform the discussion, debate and planning of decision-makers at national, state, and local levels through a contract with the National Center for Education Statistics. Our work includes survey and assessment design, analysis of assessment and survey data, and reporting and dissemination of research results.
 
The primary responsibilities will be to provide support for technical reviews of data products, statistical documentation, and reports of assessment data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). Activities include reviewing and providing comments on draft NCES products (e.g., tables, reports, data files, file documentation, and web sites) for statistical and technical soundness and support the lead reviewer in documenting and coordinating the review process. Additional responsibilities may include participating on research and analysis teams, which support the development and reporting of survey and assessment data for the NAEP and other NCES studies and supporting work of other research and reporting team members.
 
Candidates hired for the position might initially start working remotely but will eventually have the option to work from any of AIR's domestic office locations.  There is a strong preference to have the incumbent work from the Arlington, VA office location.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities for the position include:

Perform quality control reviews of statistical content, statistical tables, graphics, and text
Assist staff in the review, identification and development of scholarly information describing research findings
Participate in the collection, analysis, and review of research and evaluation data
Collaborate in a study team to analyze quantitative and/or qualitative research data and contribute to the reporting and interpretation of results
Provide new business and proposal development support by engaging in such tasks as researching funding opportunities, conducting literature reviews, writing proposal sections, etc.

Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in such fields as economics, psychology, sociology, statistics, computer science, or other social science related fields
Experience with or inclination to learn and use statistical software programs such as R, Stata, SPSS, or SAS to analyze data; proficiency in programming language such as Python is a plus
Interest in research in education, survey, and/or assessment and quantitative analysis.

Disclosures:
