The Assistant Director for Outreach is responsible for researching, developing, marketing, and delivering innovative academic skills initiatives to both undergraduate and graduate student populations. The Assistant Director will work closely with faculty and staff to determine the academic needs of first-year students, students in academic difficulty, and international students, and will create and implement new programmatic curricula accordingly. The successful candidate will work one-on-one with students on enhancing their academic skill set and will design and teach an academic skills course that targets students in academic difficulty and affects positive change in their performance at BU. The Assistant Director will implement best practices in assessing desired outcomes and evaluating metrics of success. The Assistant Director will supervise one professional staff member, and will provide programmatic support in other areas as needed.
Masters degree required. 3-5 years of related professional experience (advising, counseling, teaching at the college level). Strong research and presentation skills. Demonstrated success in building relationships with faculty and administrators; solid experience in advising and counseling undergraduate students; ability to develop a strategic marketing and outreach plan and meet target goals; strong time management skills; comfortable working with databases and social media; easily able to build rapport with diverse stakeholder groups; recognizes and seizes opportunities for collaborations and partnerships; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
