Temporary Teaching Assistant and Residential Counselor for Summer, Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences (PGSS)','2015705','!*!The Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences (PGSS) was established in order to provide a summer enrichment experience in the sciences and mathematics for hardworking Pennsylvania high school students and to encourage them to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The program provides instruction in biological sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and computer science, with emphasis on collaborative learning and team research. The PGSS is a 5-week STEM enrichment program. We are seeking multiple Teaching Assistant and Residential Counselor for summer employment for the 2021 session. In addition, one or two positions may be available as Co-Directors of Residential Life. Our particular focus is on five Core Subject Areas of:Biological SciencesChemistryComputer ScienceMathematical SciencesPhysics Core responsibilities include:Assisting with lecture and lab courses and mentoring team research projects.Living in the same dormitory as the PGSS studentsEnsuring that students adhere to the PGSS disciplinary rulesProviding tutorial help in the academic programArranging and conducting social activitiesCo- Directors of Residential Life are responsible for leading all aspects of the TA/Counselors and fostering a safe, collaborative living and learning environment for the PGSS students Qualifications:Strong academic records and strong social skillsPrior experience with PGSS or a similar summer program is preferredApplicants for TA/Counselor should have finished their sophomore year by the start of the summer programApplicants for Co-Director of Residential Life should have graduated from college or university by the start of the summer program Flexibility, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within PGSS. If the program is run remotely on Zoom, as it was very successfully in 2020, a food allowance will be included.
