UW Bothell has an outstanding opportunity for an Academic Advisor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

o Serve as primary contact for current and prospective students in Educational Studies programs. Effectively communicate degree/program requirements, University and Program policies and procedures, pre-enrollment preparation, and academic and career planning. Respond promptly to email and phone queries and requests for in-person appointments. Exercise independent judgement in referring applicants to appropriate faculty.

o Track requirements for teacher certification programs and convey recommendations to the state.

o Advise the Education Club.

o Present and lead orientation advising sessions throughout the year.

o Audit prospective teacher certification students' transcripts for courses fulfilling pre-admission requirements for all endorsement areas.

o Track student progress through degree programs using UW systems (Navigate, EARS). Coordinate outreach and support to students as necessary.

o Communicate with students regarding program completion, applying for graduation, and performing degree audits.

o Manage course petition and review process with appropriate faculty.

o Be familiar with the offering of and provide referrals to relevant campus resources.

o Anticipate and prepare for the effects on students of program changes. Advise the faculty about University and Campus rules and requirements that affect students.

o Evaluate and modify program processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness in promoting student progress.

Recruitment and Admissions:

o Meet with prospective students. Work with team to develop recruitment and retention strategies for students from underrepresented groups.

o Present information sessions on Educational Studies programs to small and large audiences.

o Participate in teacher pipeline initiatives, including event planning related to these initiatives.

o Travel to local offsite locations to promote programs (e.g. local high school teaching academies; graduate fairs; career fairs; etc.).

o Utilize and maintain fluency in the variety of information technology tools to increase connections with a wide variety of students and general public.

o Assist the Academic Services team with the application and admissions processes for School programs.

o Assist the Academic Services team with developing and/or implementing recommendations for improving School application and admissions processes.

Department Support:

o Attend regular university and School staff and committees, work groups, and major planning meetings, as needed.

o Create and produce bi-monthly newsletters for undergraduate students with pertinent information, updates, and opportunities.

o Develop and update relevant promotional materials for the program including fliers, handouts, website updating, and student/applicant profile information.

o Contribute toward the maintenance and development of the student handbook, undergraduate student Canvas resource sites, and other support tools for students.

o Evaluate and respond to student feedback regarding student support resources provided by the School.

o Coordinate the planning and executing of teacher certification program orientations with appropriate faculty and staff.

o Lead distribution and analysis of graduating senior exit survey.

o Perform related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS

o Bachelor's degree in Education, Student Development Administration, Policies Studies, or related field.

o Three years of academic advising experience in higher education.

o Ability to work with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds and in a team environment.

o Strong organizational, administrative, and problem-solving skills.

o Excellent written and oral communication skills.

o Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google platforms.

DESIRED

o Previous work experience in K-12 schools or other professional certification programs.

o Familiarity with with SDB, EARS, Navigate, and other UW systems.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

o Dynamic office environment. Regular and frequent one-on-one advising appointments with general public and university students, especially from diverse backgrounds.

o Attendance at infrequent events outside of regular business hours and off campus.

o Occasional travel throughout region for recruiting at schools and district offices, attendance at conferences, recruitment fairs, etc.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
