Description:
The University of Plymouth is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Research Assistant to develop an ambitious investigation into harnessing quantum computing technology for Brain-Computer Interfaces. You are expected to have expertise in quantum computing, machine learning and signal processing. Familiarity with brain scanning technology, including EEG and fMRI, is advantageous. The project will be developed in the University of Plymouth’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Computer Music Research (ICCMR) in partnership with the university's recently inaugurated Brain Research & Imaging Centre (BRIC), under the leadership of Prof Eduardo Miranda and Prof Stephen Hall, respectively. ICCMR is pioneering the development of practical Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) for musical applications, including BCI to enable severely motor-impaired persons to make music with brain signals. And it is developing AI to re-mix live radio in real-time, with the aim of assisting people living with dementia. ICCMR is championing the field of quantum computing for audio and music. BRIC is the most advanced multi-modal brain imaging facility in the South West of the UK with solid expertise in brain stimulation, cognitive modelling, and neuroplasticity. ICCMR and BRIC are working together towards the development of quantum neurotechnology for healthcare and creativity. You will collect brain imaging data, develop quantum computing algorithms to process and analyse the data, and implement proof-of-concept Brain-Computer Interfaces. You are expected to have a degree and post-graduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related subject, and/or demonstrable equivalent high-level work experience. You will have solid computer programming experience and knowledge of quantum computing programming. Knowledge of machine leaning (including quantum machine learning) and proficiency in signal processing are also expected. Familiarity with the field of Brain-Computer Interface and brain scanning methods, including EEG and fMRI will be very advantageous.
