The PT Department offers three programs of study: the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy, the transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy and the PhD in Physical Therapy. The Ph.D. in Physical Therapy is the only program of its kind in Michigan. The entry-level DPT program is the highest ranked DPT program in Michigan and is ranked 53rd overall by US News and World report. Additionally, the College of Health Sciences operates an interdisciplinary pro bono clinic called PT Heart, providing services to uninsured and underinsured people in Flint.
The University of Michigan-Flint, College of Health Sciences, Physical Therapy Department is seeking applications for a 12-month faculty position as an assistant/associate/full professor (tenure track position). Responsibilities include serving as Committee Chair for PhD student research projects, teaching in areas of expertise, student advising and mentoring, scholarship and service to the Department, University and Community.
We are looking for an individual who has demonstrated excellence in teaching, service and research. The candidate must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position.
Licensed or license eligible to practice as a physical therapist in any United States jurisdiction.
Graduate of CAPTE (or its equivalent) Accredited Professional Preparation Program in Physical Therapy
Have an academic doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DSc or equivalent) in a field related to physical therapy practice is required.
Demonstrated record of scholarly activity including contemporary peer-reviewed publications
Prior experience in a post-doctoral fellowship preferred.
Demonstrated ability to mentor graduate students in research is required. Experience mentoring PhD students is preferred.
The ideal candidate will have a record of research and scholarly productivity and will utilize those skills for mentoring graduate student research. A collaborative and inclusive research background is preferred along with a history of recent, and successful grant funding.
The successful candidate will demonstrate contemporary expertise and effectiveness in teaching. Areas of teaching based on expertise and departmental needs. The faculty position may include in-classroom and online teaching responsibilities within the Department. The preferred candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to service to the institution, community and profession.
The University of Michigan-Flint’s Physical Therapy Department would like to hire an Associate Professor but will accept an Assistant Professor if no candidates meet the Associate Professor criteria. Also, the department will consider hiring an applicant as a full professor if they meet the CHS and criteria for full professorship.
