Teaching jobs are among the noblest professions of our times, there is no doubt about it. Kids are getting more and more unruly and tough to handle these days as a result of which, teaching jobs are becoming unrewarding. Gone are the days when elementary teaching jobs meant unadulterated fun as you dealt with tiny tots who were as cute as cherubs!

What You Should Be Doing...

Nowadays they're unruly, brash, disrespectful and a whole host of unpleasant things you would never associate with kids. Or are they? Have you evaluated yourself? Do you know if the fault lies with your or them?

It could be highly possible that you, as a teacher are falling short somewhere. It could be highly possible that you're not doing something right. Teaching requirements today are very different from what they were a couple of years back, so move with the times and you'll see that teaching jobs today are as rewarding as they were a couple of years back!

The first thing to keep in mind when you come to class is, you're a teacher, you need to be confident and have to know exactly what you're saying. If you've just mugged something up the previous night and are prattling on about it in class, students will see through it and they're not going to take you seriously.

Students like their teachers to know what they're talking about these days. Just like how you like your students to go home and revise what you've taught in class. So if you expect them to live up to your expectations, then shouldn't you be living up to theirs too? This is especially true of college teaching jobs.

Please, Teacher, Don't be Hard On Me!

Also, an alarming trend I have observed in my teachers in all my years as a student is that they are growing increasingly short tempered. How can teachers expect their students to be tolerant when they themselves are not?

Students, even college students are just eighteen and a lot of them haven't reached adulthood mentally though they have physically, so it's a good idea to treat them like kids, with a little bit of understanding and humor!

Teaching jobs require teachers to be approachable. A student must feel that he or she can freely discuss their problems with you. You should be able to fill in a void if they have parents who are too busy to look after them. You should be someone who inspires feelings of friendship in your students.

Teaching salaries too have gone up, especially if you talk about college teaching jobs. This is because a lot more is demanded of teachers. If you're going to be paid more money, you have to accept the fact that you need to do more for it, right?

Teaching jobs are not as simple as they used to be. In addition to being a teacher, you have to fulfill the roles of friend, philosopher and guide these days to keep teaching jobs so be prepared to do all of that!
