There are many different types of jobs available when you decide that you would like to apply for the position of Associate Director of Education. If you apply to a university, the minimum educational requirements state that you should possess a Master’s degree. For community colleges, you can get hired in such a position with a Bachelor’s degree. For both types of institutions, you do need to have experience teaching at such a facility. There are positions available for associate directors that do not involve teaching or supervision of teachers and these also require that you have experience in carrying out the various types of duties involved.

If you apply for the position of Associate Director of Curriculum Services, you will need to have knowledge of how libraries operate. Acceptable qualifications for this type of position require a Master of Library Science. You will also need to have experience in developing curriculum at the post secondary level and familiarity with business courses. This is because in the position you will essentially be a manager responsible for developing and maintaining budgets for the program. Developing or finding professional development opportunities for the staff is also a crucial part of the job. Leadership, expertise in staff motivation and exceptional written and spoken communication skills are also prerequisites for the position.

Acting as Associate Director of Student Activities at a Community College requires you to have at least a Bachelor’s degree. Since this type of position means you will be working in an advisory capacity, it would be advantageous to have experience in guidance and counseling. This experience could be at the high school or college level. Preferably, the selection committee will look for a candidate with a Master’s degree in Counseling or any field closely related to administration of student personnel. As part of this job, your duties will involve developing a leadership program for the students, and providing assistance in the area of student learning, such as in establishing and maintaining student help centers.

If teaching os part of your duties as Associate Director, an In – depth knowledge of outcomes based education is important to the position. You need to know how to teach from curriculum outcomes and to help those teaching staff who are new to this instructional methodology. In addition, to teaching according to curriculum outcomes, you also need to know how to use different assessment methods and how to tailor the types of assessment to meet the needs of the students.

The various ads for Associate Director positions specify the primary duties of the successful applicant and the minimum qualifications acceptable for the position. It is important to read the postings carefully before submitting the application so that you are confident you possess the qualifications and skills necessary for the job. If you are applying to a college that you are not familiar with, you should research the college so as to familiarize yourself with the types of courses taught there and to get to know the mission statement of the college.
