Childhood / Adolescence/ Literacy (Two)/ Special Education
Elmira College is seeking four outstanding tenure-track professors and one non-tenure track (Special Education) instructor in a strong Teacher Education program at a well-established small liberal arts college, beginning date July 15, 2012. RANKS OPEN. Appropriate doctorate, related public or private school teaching experience, and certification in area of teaching position are all required. Supervision of student teachers may be needed, with the potential of supervising at an international site.
Elmira College, the first college to offer a comprehensive curriculum for women, and home of the Center for Mark Twain Studies, is a small, well-established, residential, liberal arts college in a pleasant community in the Finger Lakes region of New York State (county population 100,000). The College's enrollment continues at strong levels. 10% of the current student body graduated first or second in their high school or prep school class. Average class size is 16; student-faculty ratio is 11:1.
Childhood Education Position requires appropriate doctorate, teaching experience in 1-6 schools, and certification in Childhood Education 1-6. Teaching assignments include undergraduate courses in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in Social Studies and the Arts; Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in Math, Science, and Technology; and possibly Foundations of Education.
Adolescence Education Position requires appropriate doctorate, 7-12 teaching experience, and teaching certification in one of the 7-12 areas: biology, chemistry, English, math, social studies, or Spanish. Teaching assignments include undergraduate courses in Curriculum Design, Instruction, and Assessment (7-12), Methods of Teaching (7-12) and Foundations of Education.
Two Literacy Education Positions require appropriate doctorates, literacy certification K-12, and literacy teaching experience in schools. Teaching assignments at the master’s level may include Literacy Acquisition, Literacy Assessment and Intervention, Literacy in the Content Areas, and Developing and Administering Literacy Programs. Undergraduate teaching responsibilities may consist of Literacy Acquisition and Development for Preschool and Elementary School Learners, Teaching Literacy in the Elementary Schools, Content Literacy in the Middle Schools, and Content Literacy in the Secondary Schools. A combination of undergraduate and masters - level teaching will be required.
Special Education Position (non-tenure track) requires appropriate doctorate, special education certification, and special education teaching experience in schools. Teaching assignments may include undergraduate courses in Teaching Students with Disabilities in an Inclusive Classroom, Foundations of Education, Fieldwork in Education, and possible masters - level courses.
