Education for Students with Disabilities

Special education is a major topic in the United States and around the world. Countries want to give all of their students the best education possible, yet certain problems arise concerning the educational needs of students with learning disabilities. Some educators prefer that students with disabilities should be put into a special education program so that they can have more individual attention, and learn at a comfortable rate. However, other educators believe that they should be taken out of special education programs and integrated into regular classes because most special education programs suffer from a low rate of success. The level of learning is lowered and therefore does not give these students the appropriate education that they need.

Teacher Certification for Foreign Educated Teachers

The shortage of educators in prime subjects and in different areas in the country has led to an increased demand for qualified educators from other countries. Qualified foreign educated teachers can find teaching opportunities in the US if they take time to follow the rules and regulations required to join the teaching force. There are many opportunities in both public and private schools as well, as foreign educated teachers who meet certifications in different states stand better chances of gaining employment.

The Importance of Education
By Douglas May

Sometimes when the economy dips a president finds it necessary to perform budget cuts, and many times the slashing occurs in the realm of education. Especially at risk are artistic studies or elective courses outside of the usual required curriculum; theater arts and music education are usually the first to go. It's a sad comment on society when the most artistic venues in education are compromised and young people are deprived of critical training and exposure that might launch them into a new world which hitherto might not have existed for them. Some organizations have banded together to help maintain artistic education in the nation's public schools. One such organization is VH1's Save The Music Foundation.

Imagine Class on Fridays Only
By Douglas May

Just as some companies and corporations have adopted a four-day workweek to cut down on stress and gasoline consumption, some colleges are now considering adopting a ''Friday only'' class schedule. This would be done in an effort to save money for the school and the student body at large. The ''Full-time Friday'' schedule would help reduce the effects of high gas prices on the pocketbooks of commuting students and free up time for those who need to work their ways through school.

A Career in Special Education
By Douglas May

If you are thinking about a career in teaching, you might want to think about the field of special education. Employment of special education teachers is expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations through 2014, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. In other words, the need for special education teachers is greater than ever. Most estimates indicate that more than two million new special education instructors will be needed by the year 2010. Although the number of children who will be taking special education programs is expected to decline, the overall demand for services will increase, in part because schools are increasingly offering children in special education the chance to ''mainstream'' and take classes with students in regular classes instead of having only the choice of taking special education classes with other special education students. Teachers with special education training may also be hired by family members to become private tutors, assisting a child throughout the day with one-on-one sessions.

Enhance Your Public Speaking Skills for Success in Your Teaching Job
By Stony Olsen

Let's face it: a job in education means lots of speaking in public. I've taught a class or two myself, and if you can't speak well in public, you can't teach. Even education administrators need to be able to address the public, or at least a large group. In fact, that might even be more important for your institution if you have to try to get a larger budget.

Heavy Equipment Operation Now a Specialized Education
By Taylor Morris*

Today, education exists largely because of one thing — specialization. Every educational institution has programs and degrees focusing on certain areas of expertise, and these specialized educations allow individuals to excel in their fields of choice, thus helping society as a whole.

''Project Working Mom'' Tackles Undereducation among Single Working Moms
By Helen MacDermott and Jenny Foust

Ever since she was a little girl, Jeanne Sarmiento wanted to be a lawyer. As she grew older, however, her life took some unexpected turns. After what she calls ''a series of poor choices'' as a young adult, this mother changed her life and became inspired by her children to go to school. Even as a single parent of an infant, Sarmiento was determined to get her degree, and she added credits slowly but surely over the years. Eventually, she graduated with an associate's degree. She is now going back to school for an additional degree and cannot wait to hear her kids yell, ''You did it, Mom! You did it!''
