Career Development Programs
One of the important changes that have been made in recent months by the federal government is an increase in the amount of money being spent on young adults for preparation in education careers, teacher jobs, and other careers that are in high demand.
A couple of the important programs such as these are the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and YouthBuild. The Workforce Investment Act has added over $1 billion in order to help prepare students and young adults for the workforce, training them with proper education and occupational skills for education jobs, nursing opportunities, and teaching.
YouthBuild is an organization that produces low-income housing, and its project has invested $50 million to help young people across the country gain employment skills and education. Through YouthBuild's efforts, more teenagers and young adults have the opportunity to earn their GED, gain valuable employment skills, and become successful in a trade if they so choose.
Other programs such as these throughout the country that have been seen increased funding with federal stimulus money in recent months include community programs for young adults. For example, the Community Youth Services is designed to give teenagers the opportunity to get involved and develop much needed career preparation and training. Some of these career programs include AmeriCorps: Youth in Service as well as CareerTREK.
Resume Preparation
In addition to the major federally funded programs like YouthBuild and WIA, the Department of Labor has also added millions of dollars in order to help teenagers and young adults in job and resume preparation. For example, Job Centers and One-Stop Career Centers provide information on resume building, skills training, and other development programs that help prepare young adults for education careers, teacher jobs, and a variety of other employment opportunities.
In addition, these career centers also help teenagers and young people with their interpersonal skills, something that usually needs refined before going on interviews. Local career and Job Centers also are places where individuals can go if they are seeking employment as these are institutions that are regularly contacted by employers to list the openings that they have.
Preparation for a Future
The real benefit of increased federal funding and stimulus monies to national programs and local organizations is that teenagers and young adults have been given the opportunity to contribute to society.
Through educational and skill-based training programs, young people are able to learn the skills and knowledge necessary to apply for education jobs, teacher jobs, nursing jobs, jobs in construction or management, and a wide range of other careers. In addition, they will in turn contribute to the overall society by paying taxes and becoming a skilled resource. Overall, the increased stimulus and federal funding that has gone to national programs for young people will help contribute to a skillful and more knowledgeable generation for years to come.
