Korn/Ferry International hires two education industry leaders
Korn/Ferry International, a leading provider of talent-management solutions, has hired the services of two education industry leaders-Stephen J. Trachtenberg and Kenneth L. Kring-for the firm’s Education Practice. Trachtenberg, who serves as the president of George Washington University, will take over Korn/Ferry’s Washington, DC, office as chairman of the North American Education Practice. In his new role, Trachtenberg will work with search committees and the country’s premier institutions to identify, recruit, and develop leadership talent. Mr. Kring has been appointed senior client partner and managing director of the North American Education Practice located in Philadelphia. In this role, he will direct a national team and be responsible for recruiting presidents, chancellors, provosts, commissioners, and deans for colleges and universities in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. Krin’s position will also include educational publishing, educational services, and other important areas of the education spectrum.
AbleNet develops AbleNet Student Achievement Program for disabled students
AbleNet, Inc. has designed AbleNet Student Achievement Program for students with moderate-to-severe disabilities. The program includes three curricula: Play & Learn, a 12-month preschool curriculum that combines motor-skill development with communication, socialization, and cognitive skills; a second program entitled 'MEville to WEville,' an early literacy and communication curriculum designed to meet the special needs of elementary students with disabilities; and Star Reporter, an exhaustive specialized-education curriculum for elementary and secondary students. The curriculum has been selected by many of America's largest school districts, including Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, and Philadelphia. AbleNet, Inc. sells a line of assistive-technology products such as communication aids for non-verbal students, access aids, and classroom tools that can be used by individual students or during group activities.
Patrick calls for free education for Massachusetts residents ages 3 through community-college level
In an effort to realize his vision of free education to every Massachusetts resident from age 3 through community-college level, Governor Deval Patrick has appointed an 18-member panel to draw up a blueprint for a 10-year plan. Former Boston public schools Superintendent Thomas Payzant, EMC Corp. chairperson and CEO Joseph Tucci, and Wheelock College President Jackie Jenkins-Scott will direct the leadership team. The trio has until March to submit proposals to Patrick, who wants longer school days, new teacher-training programs, and enhanced curricula in math and English.
